Hobbies & Interests Nola is somewhat of a nerd, having been drawn into comics from a very early age. She also writes holo novels on the side and sometimes releases them on the Net under a pseudonym. That has gained her a small following in the holo novel enthusiasts circle, but she has chosen to keep her real identity a secret in order to keep her hobby separate from her day job as a Starfleet officer.

Personal History Nola was born into the Ninth House of Betazed, an ancient and noble family, but one that had been in decline for centuries before her grandfather took over the rein and became the family patriarch. As Lars Elbrun rose through the ranks of Starfleet, the family's fortune began to rise again. Nola was born in 2361 to Ander, Lars' eldest son, and Sarona, much to the family's delight and relief as her parents had been trying to conceive for quite some time.

Nola was twelve when the Dominion War broke out in 2373. Merely a year later the Dominion seized Betazed from the Tenth Fleet, which was caught off position on a training exercise. Lars, then a vice admiral, was in command of the Tenth Fleet and was widely blamed for the blunder. Lars retired in disgrace, and the family's reputation, especially among Betazoids, plummeted precipitously, so much so that shortly after the war ended, Ander and Sarona moved to Earth so that Nola and her brother Ves could have a normal life without the constant jeers and bullying they received at school because of the popular belief that the Ninth House had utterly failed Betazed during the war.

But by then all the ridicule and bullying had already left an indelible impression on the young minds of the Elbrun children, both of whom were very close to their grand father. Both Nola and her brother were determined to clear the Elbrun name. While Ves chose to go into politics on Earth with an eye set on the highest echelons of the federal government, Nola decided to follow her grandfatehr's footsteps and join Starfleet.

Although her last name did raise a few eyebrows, Nola's time at the Academy was rather uneventful. Feeling the responsibility of rehabilitating her family, she studied extra hard and graduated with honors. After graduation Nola served on a number of posts with distinction, eventually rising to the XO's position on the Sovereign class USS Martok, a rather prestigious position for a young officer, but unsurprising for someone widely considered a rising star in Starfleet.

Unfortunately that was almost the end o her Starfleet career. A collision incident involving the Martok and a Risian cruiseliner led to a board of inquiry. The board of inquiry eventually widened into a corruption investigation. Months later, several of the Martok's senior officers were court-martialed. While Nola was cleared of the more serious charges, she was nonetheless slapped with several reprimands.

She was scheduled to be reassigned to a remote listening outpost when Captain Oliver Lee, who had just been given command of the USS Arcadia, offered her the second officer's position on his ship. Though the position was mostly administrative, it was still a far better turn of events than she could have expected. The Arcadia was, after all, one of the largest and most advanced ships in the fleet. Perhaps there was still hope for her in Starfleet.
