What To Do - Part 2 "Trust"
Episode 4 - Truth, Justice, and the Federation Way
Location: USS Arcadia, Silent Triangle

::Ready Room, Deck 18::
It had been over an hour since his breakfast with Nami ended less than cordially, but Oliver was still struck by her words. Part of him still didn't trust her, but if there was a chance to save his mother, was he really going to pass that chance? How could he?
Deep in thought, he was almost startled when Jesse appeared before his desk in her holographic avatar.
"Captain, " said the ship's AI, "sorry for to disturb you, but Lieutenant Capulet is waiting outside."
"Ah, thank you, Jesse." he responded with a small smile. "Let her in."
He must have missed the door chime.
As the AI disappeared into thin air, the doors to the ready room hissed open, and his science chief stepped through. Straightening the uniform jacket, he pushed his earlier conversation with Ishikawa to the back of his mind. He could use the distraction.
With a small smirk, he said, "What can I do for you, Lieutenant? Don't tell me you found another tape because I'm starting to think that I might be able to make a small fortune out of them."
"I could help with that . . . for a price" Chrys said with a smile. "But no, I have found no more . . . tapes." she said with a smirk. Then her face went serious. "We may have a bit of a problem, Sir."
Oliver frowned slightly. "And what might that be?"
"Captain Ishikawa." Chrys replied flatly. "It did not escape my notice that among the senior staff, she knew who I was without an introduction. And then she sought me out in the crew lounge last night. That alone set my bells ringing . . . and then she told me that she knew me in the future and that she considered myself and certain contacts a great help in the war effort. She was fishing for something, sir. I think she was trying to get me on her side."
Letting out a small sigh, Oliver leaned back into his chair. He had hoped that Chrys would have something to distract him from Nami, even if just for a moment, but it seemed that the Trill had a way of getting to him even when she wasn't around.
"Why do you think she needs you on her side?"
He had the feeling that Ishikawa was hiding a lot more from him than he had thought, but what exactly did she want?
Chrys sat and considered it for a moment. "Sir, to be blunt, something stinks about this whole thing. While I might believe her about the Dominion, they have never been good losers and sometimes they need reminding of the fact that the lost and lost hard, the fact that they were sent back, and in conflict with the Klingons . . . seemed a bit off to me. Not too arranged, but rather like she is not really obeying orders. I do not think she is following orders . . . or at least the orders she would like us to think she might be following."
Chrys took a breath. "Sir I grew up in a place where the con was always there. The fake out of a target. I feel this about this situation. She didn't like the idea of contacting Starfleet Command for approval. She was also not in favour of the small strike force, but I think she will work with that. Do I believe she is doing what she thinks is best? Yes. Is it the best? I do not know. She wants that base destroyed, sir, and she is not going to allow us to stop that from happening." She looked him in the eye. "That is my opinion, sir, and I think she wants my help to do it. Because she feels that I, the future me, was a great help to the war effort in the future, though I get the impression, she and I were not on the same side then. But she thinks we are now."
Oliver rubbed the back of his neck as he considered what Chrys had just said. It seemed that the intrigue had only deepened.
"I heard from Starfleet Command this morning. The Federation Council is still considering its options. And as soon as the repair on the Themyscira is complete, we are to escort them to Starbase 139, and the Department of Temporal Investigation will take over from there. Needless to say, Captain Ishikawa didn't take the news too well."
He paused briefly before asking, "What would you do, Lieutenant, if someone forces you to abandon the only mission that matters to you?"
"Take matters into my own hands, Sir." Chrys replied. "I'd be sneaking out to the Themyscira and taking off, 'orders' be damned."
Oliver nodded. A few ideas were coursing through his mind, but he wanted to hear what the science chief had to say. There was something eerily similar about her and Nammi. Perhaps she would have a better understanding of the Trill's psyche.
"Well, I can't just confine them to their quarters without any cause, much less put them in the brig." He said.
"Then don't." Chrys replied with a smile. "Let's see how she plays her hand. I will, however, need permission from you to . . . disobey orders if needed"
Oliver quirked a curious eyebrow.
"That depends on what you have in mind, Lieutenant."
