The Klingons Are Revolting! - Part 1 "Lockdown"
Episode 4 - Truth, Justice, and the Federation Way
Location: USS Arcadia
Timeline: 0942 Hours, MD 2 (March 4, 2393)
::Secondary Brig, Deck 43::
The summons from the Intelligence department seemed urgent. Kevan's breakfast sat half-eaten back in the mess as he made his way to the Arcadia's secondary brig, which housed around 18 Klingons recovered from the now-destroyed ship, including their Captain.
He assumed, from the tired state of the intelligence officer that met him, that the team had been working through the night. Maybe that was their standard procedure, he wasn't completely sure, but the tiredness in the man's eyes was mixed with a cautious concern.
"We've...interviewed...all of the prisoners, Lieutenant." The statement suggested the Klingons weren't particularly talkative. "What we learned was mostly their number of ongoing blood feuds and their latest songs regarding victory over the 'Federation dogs'. We did, however, come up with something you'll want to see." The officer handed-over a padd, displaying the face of one of the Klingon officers and a large page of text.
"What am I looking at?" Kevan asked.
"This Klingon is...well, not a Klingon. She's actually using a rather advanced and quite ingenious disguise."
"If she's not one of them, what is she?"
"Romulan, sir. When challenged, she stated that she was Romulan intelligence and that we could trust her not to betray us. Assuming we don't betray her. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but what she did mention appears to corroborate some of what we recovered from the Themyscira.
That was useful information. Either Ishikawa had been truthful, or this really was an elaborate plot indeed, Kevan mused.
"I want to speak to her," he said. The intelligence officer nodded, and motioned towards the cells themselves in the next room.
The cell block was broken-down into smaller holding units, with 3-4 Klingons in each one. The Romulan agent was in the far end, with three others. The intelligence officer operated the wall controls to release the forcefield, and motioned the female Klingon forward. She hadn't been on the bridge when his team had boarded, and she didn't look particularly familiar. She fell into stride next to Kevan as he turned to head back out to one of the interrogation rooms.
Kevan wasn't entirely sure what happened next. He wasn't anticipating any trouble from the other Klingons, so was surprised to hear a cry from the intelligence officer that had just briefed him. Kevan turned in time to see the man being assaulted by two of the Klingons that had been previously stood in their cell, with the third snatching his hand phaser.
Kevan instinctively dropped back, going for his own weapon that he realised he wasn't wearing. The Klingon turned the weapon towards him, a toothy grin on his face as he knew what came next. As the energy beam lanced out, however, the female Klingon that had claimed to be a Romulan agent pushed herself in front of Kevan and took the blast in the chest. She sagged into his arms, almost using her body as a shield for him as he retreated back the way he had come towards the door.
"Computer, emergency lockdown protocol Valhalla-six-four!" Kevan barked as he stumbled out of the exit and into the antechamber beyond. The ship's computer acknowledged the code as alarms sounded. The Klingons wouldn't stay held for long, but the lockdown would keep them in this section of the ship. He sank to the deck and cradled the Romulan agent's body, seeing the smoking wound in her chest. The weapon had been on a high setting. She wouldn't last long. Her eyes were fading, as she grasped his shoulder with one feeble arm.
"You must...warn...Project Medusa..." she gasped, before her mouth filled with dark liquid and her eyes rolled. The words were cryptic, as though they were meant to mean something but he was missing something crucial.
"Damn," he murmured to himself. There was a very loud bang on the closed door he had just exited. The message would have to wait. Looking around and not seeing anyone else with him, he quietly added, "I definitely shouldn't have skipped breakfast..."
Oliver was going over the requisition request for the mobile Academy he had just received from Admiral Farley when alarm sounded on the spacious bridge. Setting the PADD down on the desk, he made his way to the doors of his ready room, and as soon as he stepped onto the bridge, he said, "Report."
"There's a breakout in the brig on Deck 43, Captain. It's the Klingons." Answered Lieutenant Commander Nola Elbrun, the Arcadia's second officer, who had taken the comm as both Oliver and I'lien worked from their offices. As the Betazoid officer vacated the captain's chair and took her seat to its left, she continued, "Lieutenant Dash has initiated lock down protocols in the brig's vicinity."
Oliver frowned slightly. Unless the situation escalated, he would let the security chief deal with it as per the protocols. But he would not take any chances with the Klingons, especially not when there were so many civilians on board. He need to put the entire ship on lock down until the situation was resolved.
Taking his seat, he said, "Yellow alert. Ship-wide lock down protocol Alpha-4. Commander Slvar to the bridge."
I'lien was using the down time to review the sensor logs from the Themyscira. Something was just not right about the story they had been given. He stood up when the captain called him to the bridge and made his way out of his office. A moment later he strode onto the bridge.
"Reporting as ordered, sir," he said, surveying the bridge for some sign as to what was amiss.
Oliver nodded as his first officer took his seat next to his right. "It looks like our Klingon guests are not too happy with their accommodation, Commander. But Lieutenant Dash is already on the scene, and I'm sure he will have everything under control in no time."
Nola sat quietly in her seat as Oliver and I'lien discussed the situation. There was a time when she wanted nothing more than opportunities to prove herself, but now she was only too happy to relinquish command to the captain: she was definitely not ready to assume command in a crisis situation, not by a long shot, as the last time she took charge of a situation like this on the Resolute, people got hurt and she was court-martialed. Some might see the 2nd Officer's position as nominal and pointless, but that's just fine with her. At least no one would get hurt again because of her own mistakes.
Leaning back into the chair, she let out a sigh of relief.
